Perhaps the only good thing to come out of the shocking death of young Trayvon Martin, is that tragedy oftentimes brings out the best in people. Sports are often about glitz and glamour, but famous athletes across the board are demanding that Trayvon Martin’s killer be brought to justice. The Miami Heat have posted a photo of them all wearing hoodies in tribute to Trayvon, and Mike Tyson has been tweeting all day about how this country must protect our children.

I don’t understand how anyone, regardless of race, can’t be horrified that a grown man gunned down a child execution-style in broad daylight and he hasn’t been arrested. This is something that’s supposed to happen in supposedly third-world countries, not in America. Well, guess again. I wear hoodies all the time. I would hate to be gunned down for walking around in one. I’m an asian female, but who knows, there are most likely some neighborhoods in America that have vitriolic dislike and distrust for asian females. I would hate to be gunned down just for walking around in one, just for being alive. People get arrested for smoking/distributing marijuana, and yet George Zimmerman can still be free for murdering a child.
RIP Trayvon, #JusticeForTrayvon.

I’m not American so I’m no expert, but… wasn’t Trayvon Martin a violent thug that broke Zimmerman’s nose and struck him hard enough to create a bloody gash on his head? I’ve heard that he was suspended from school for a long period (for unknown reasons) and assaulted a bus driver too. I’m starting to see a pattern here…
According to a police report and witnesses, Zimmerman was violently attacked by the kid and acted in self defense.
A white man’s name is not enough to make a hispanic be respected as a white, but, apparently, it will help him to be accused like one.
If black movements and professional racists like Sharpton knew from the start he was a Latino, he wouldn’t be lynched this way (even though the police and eye witnesses support his version).
I’m not familiar with the concept, so… is this the unfamous “white man’s guilt” we hear all the time in those unfunny comedies?
But that’s a lesson for all of us. If you’re of mixed ethnic, keep the non-white surname.
I did think it was stupid how everyone jumped on believing that Zimmerman was white, when he was obviously hispanic when looking at his mugshot. Either way, I don’t think it should matter.
No one knows what really happened except Zimmerman or Trayvon. However, what I strongly believe is that if Zimmerman hadn’t followed Trayvon like the police told him to do, none of this mess would ever happened. Zimmerman had the gun, Trayvon didn’t. Zimmerman was an adult, Trayvon was a teenager. Zimmerman should be tried for murder. I guess we can agree to disagree over this.
A 13 years old is completely aware of his actions and Zimmerman’s injuries show that he was scared man acting in self defense and trying to save his live. He even begged for help while Travis was on top of him, beating him up.
And we do know what happened. Here’s a witness:
http://www.myfoxorlando.com/dpp/news/seminole_news/022712-man-shot-and-killed-in-neighborhood-altercation#ixzz1phFMGCu4
“The guy on the bottom, who had a red sweater on, was yelling to me, ‘Help! Help!’ and I told him to stop, and I was calling 911,” said the witness, who asked to be identified only by his first name, John.
John said he locked his patio door, ran upstairs and heard at least one gun shot.
“And then, when I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on the top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point.”
Worse than seeing a thug being canonized is to see the life of an inocent (till now) man destroyed.
Here’s the police report, if you’re interested:

And, of course we can respect each other’s opinions over this, but Travis wasn’t gunned down just for walking around, and I think everyone in that situation would shoot. If he disobeyed police orders, that’s a problem, but he couldn’t have guessed this outcome. Maybe he was reckless, but he is not a murderer. And this was no hate crime.
i don’t think it was a hate crime, but it was racially motivated. you can’t tell me that if trayvon was a white kid this would still have happened. but thanks for the extra information, it gives me a more balanced view of what is really going on in the case. perhaps i’ve been too quick to demonize the police. but george zimmerman is and always will be a sh**head in my opinion.
Travyon’s twitter:

Some awful crap here. And I can’t even understand most of the slangs…
he just sounds like a teenager trying to be cool on twitter…
If you look only to his tweets… yes, but in the big picture things are really bad for him. Assaults, harassement, disgusting treatment of women… apparently he incorporated the thug persona of his tweets… or really was one.
A racially motivated crime… isn’t that the definition of a hate crime?
Anyways.. I’ll wait for more and I’ll look at it again. Maybe I can change my mind about Zimmerman.
And I’ll stop bothering you with this.
Zimmerman’s going down! Yes we can wait to see if anything happens. Unfortunately this case has stirred a lot of racial tension in the US again.
Some facts
Trayvon was 17 yo, not 13
Social justice is an empty slogan and it has nothing to do with the case
Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty. He was charged because of politics, since the police saw no reason to arrest or accuse him based on evidence
The crime was already 1 month old and someone, for some reason and out of nowhere brought it to light as a hate crime despite all evidence to the contrary
racial tensions are very important to our current government. It mobilizes its constituencies. look how the government is using this rhetoric of class warfare to win support and to hide its failures:
1 percenters X the people
misogynists and evangelical nut-cases X women pro-choice
israel firsters/zionist lobby X real americans
racist cowards (by attourney general Eric Holden) X blacks and non-racists
islamophobes X peaceful muslims
the list goes on and on
liberals are erasing people as unique individuals and only recognize them as power groups, opressed or oppressive minorities. Zimmerman is a great example. he’s a hispanic democrat, no one can prove his actions were based on racism but this is not important and makes no difference because they need a scapegoat
No one knows if Zimmerman is truly innocent but the police thought so and this says a lot
I’m not a conservative but my props to Fox and republicans for not lynching nor defending the man. He’ll have his day in court it will say if he’s guilty or not
the most reasonable thing about this whole incident

you make a lot of good points, and do does the guy in the video. and he makes a good point that black on black violence is ignored. in fact, that’s a great point that i do agree with and think needs to be fixed. i, however, think to some degree that’s an issue that needs to be dealt with in the black communities, and there needs to be more guys like him who are willing to speak out about the issue.
however, both liberals and conservatives are guilty of stereotyping, grouping people together, they just do it in different ways. I don’t think one party is any different, or less corrupt than the other. they both use race in a variety of different ways when it fits their agenda. in this case, the trayvon martin case benefits the liberal agenda more. however, george zimmerman is still a sick individual, who is a menace to society with his paranoid, unbalanced mind.
despite his eloquence and arguments……. liberals call him an uncle tom. can you imagine anything more offensive and racist? if you’re black you have no right to think for yourself and to have an opinion. when you go against the narrative of the opressed you deserve to be harassed with racial slurs because you’re going against the cause.
where is the uproar?
there is none because they are not interested in the black individual. they only use race to do politics with their ressentiment. they like blacks as an idea and as a group, not as persons.
I see you talk as an asian american…….. to me this makes as much sense as to talk about blacks or hispanics as a single group. I can understand someone talking as a Japanese American or as Chinese American, but as an Asian American? When they come to america they suddenly lose their history, their hatred and the centuries of wars and genocides against each other? the same happens to hispanics from peru and chile? or with arabs sunnis and shias?
hello, first thanks for reading and commenting. i watched the video and I see that you make good points. i agree with you about people generalizing race, but i’m amazed at how people still defend George Zimmerman, who obviously is just crazy. If he was a “normal” guy and this was just a regular altercation, then I would say people are going out of control. But Zimmerman had called the police reportedly seventy or so times on what he viewed as “suspicious” behavior. He obviously is psychologically sick. Race aside, while I agree with your points, I don’t think they apply to Zimmerman, who is a sick person.
