  • Gokhan Saki Shocks The World, Knocks Out Daniel Ghita In Cinematic Fashion

I’ve discovered the kickboxing world is a little like Project Runway, “One day you’re in, the next day you’re out.” Less than two years ago, Badr Hari dominated Gokhan Saki, and seemed on the precipice of pugilistic greatness. Gokhan Saki, on the other hand, had never looked worst, and Daniel Ghita seemed to be unstoppable.

Fast-forward to last week, Gokhan Saki knocked out Daniel Ghita in cinematic fashion. I had fully expected Ghita to knock out and control the match against Saki. While it could be argued that Saki got a gift knockdown, but the ultimate outcome is that Saki achieved a huge win, and will next face Semmy Schilt.

I will, once again, predict against Saki, in that Schilt will win. But if somehow Gokhan Saki does pull off the victory, he’ll lay claim to being the best kickboxer in the world. Crazy.

  • Gokhan Saki Will Rematch Daniel Ghita At Glory 6

What is Gokhan Saki thinking? I will say this over-and-over again: While Gokhan Saki is a courageous and talented fighter, he consistently is always facing fighters who are one if not more weight-classes above him. This may not be his fault, because kickboxing doesn’t have a weight-class for him.

But perhaps he should switch to MMA where proper weight-classes exist, if he is constantly having to face men the size of Daniel Ghita, Badr Hari, Semmy Schilt, etc…

While Saki, I believe, won the first encounter against Daniel Ghita, I don’t think he has a chance in this rematch. While Saki remains the same fighter, suffering a brutal loss to Badr Hari, Ghita has tremendously improved.

This is a mega-fight in the world of heavyweight kickboxing, I just hope Gokhan Saki puts on a better performance than he did against Badr Hari.

  • Semmy Schilt Defeats Daniel Ghita, Regains His Throne As King Of The Heavyweight Kickboxers

First, I want to say, that I really dislike Semmy Schilt, always have and always will. No other kickboxer has consistently defeated and mauled my favorite kickboxers like Errol Zimmerman and Jerome LeBanner. Added to this, is Schilt’s seemingly unfair size and height advantage when fighting against other heavyweights, and my dislike for him is only amplified.

Still I have to give the man credit: he has consistently proven himself to be the best heavyweight kickboxer in the world. Whether the x-factor is his size or his experience, he has lasting power in a cruel and unforgiving sport both physically and mentally.

I had written off Schilt as a champion of the past, but he has just defeated Gokhan Saki, Brice Guidon, Rico Verhoeven, AND Daniel Ghita in one night at Dream 18. This is a feat of epic proportions. While I had considered (and hoped) Daniel Ghita was now the best heavyweight kickboxer in the world, Semmy Schilt is still the king.

  • Daniel Ghita Signs With Glory

After lying low for months, Glory has signed Daniel Ghita in a great acquisition for the rising kickboxing organization. They are fast on their way to becoming the number one kickboxing organization in the world. Daniel Ghita looks like the number one man in the heavyweight kickboxing scene. Greatly feared, it was even reported that Gokhan Saki had refused to fight him.

There are now potentially some great matchups that Daniel Ghita could participate in against Semmy Schilt, Remy Bonjasky, or Tyrone Spong. I would love to see the results of all three of these fights, although I would choose Ghita as the winner in all of these.

  • Daniel Ghita Training With Tyson Fury

What is going on with Daniel Ghita? After several absolutely dominant performances and calling out Badr Hari, Ghita seemingly has fallen off the radar. He no longer is part of K1′s tournament, which is strange considering he was a heavy favorite to win the one million dollars (no small reward for a kickboxer).

He hasn’t joined Glory (yet), and no one knows who/when he is going to fight next. Well, surprise surprise, I guess he is sparring with Tyson Fury of all people. Tyson Fury isn’t even a kickboxer. He is a British heavyweight boxer, who is almost seven feet tall.

It appears that Daniel Ghita has decided to take a little breather from kickboxing. He is arguably the best heavyweight kickboxer in the world at this time, so I hope he fights again soon.

  • Forget Badr Hari, Daniel Ghita Will Become the Next K1 Grand Prix Champion

After watching the free U-Stream broadcast of K1 Rising, it is painfully obvious that Badr Hari has no chance of beating Daniel Ghita. Badr Hari has always been chinny, and with Romanian Daniel Ghita seemingly turning into the hulk recently, Hari is going to get KO’ed by Ghita.

Ghita looked indestructible with earth-shattering leg-kicks and punches to poor Wendell Roche, who had never been stopped before. On the other hand, Badr Hari looked like he had aged ten years since his last fight with Gokhan Saki. His physique was noticeably soft, his timing was off, and even more disturbing – he was gassed after ONE round. I have no idea how this guy thinks he’s going to become a heavyweight boxing champion, if he can’t even go one round without losing his power.

To me, a fight between Daniel Ghita and Badr Hari, will only have either two conclusions: Hari getting knocked out, or Hari finding a way to get disqualified because he knows he’s over-matched.

All hail the new kickboxing king, Daniel Ghita!

  • Ray Sefo vs Mirko Crocop Result

In a battle of two grizzled, veteran fighters, who are already two fighting icons, they fought a last match before their inevitable retirements. Going into their fight, it’s hard to choose the winner. Since both men are in the tail-ends of their career and have looked badly faded in their most recent fights. Compared to their primes, Sefo and Cro Cop have both amassed multiple losses. Sefo had a failed foray into boxing, was brutally beat down by Badr Hari, and even cried in the ring when fighting Peter Aerts.

Meanwhile, it’s all been downhill for Cro Cop after losing to Gabriel Gonzaga via vicious headkick that crumpled him like a rag-doll. Cro Cop also had losses to Alistair Overeem, Cheick Kongo, and even “Fatty Country” Roy Nelson.

Still, going into this fight, I would’ve chosen Cro Cop via unanimous decision because in their primes, I think Mirko was the better fighter.

In the end, I was right. Mirko just won via unananimous decision in what was reported as an ok, but not exciting fight. However, the fight was in Croatia, and the stadium was packed for their hometown hero.

In other, more relevant, kickboxing news, Daniel Ghita def. Sergei Laschenko by TKO, and did it in a powerful, brutal fashion. I believe that if this Daniel Ghita fought Badr Hari, he would win. Hari has trouble against fighters bigger than him. If the K1 Grand Prix is held this year as promised by It’s Showtime, then I predict Daniel Ghita winning everything.

  • Now that Badr Hari, Gokhan Saki, and Tyrone Spong are leaving Kickboxing, who Will Be the World’s Best?

In addition to these young stars leaving kickboxing, Semmy Schilt, Remy Bonjasky, and Peter Aerts have all basically retired also. With the fall of the K1 organization and Its Showtime being on shaky ground, the kickboxing world is on a lifeline. While kickboxing has never caught on in America, it has enjoyed popularity in Japan and in the Netherlands it’s a national past-time. But with K1 falling apart, the opportunities in Japan for kickboxers have also decreased.

Badr Hari, Gokhan Saki, and Tyrone Spong were three of the best, most talented and charismatic stars of the kickboxing world. Who is left now that they have gone? This is my opinion of who are now the most talented fighters, and also who have the most potential.

    1. Errol “Bonecrusher” Zimmerman

Dutch kickboxer Errol Zimmerman has a resume filled with big names. He has fought Badr Hari, Semmy Schilt, Remy Bonjasky, and has lost to many of them. But he was also fighting them when he was very young and gave Badr Hari a fight of a lifetime when they met. He also put out a good showing, with lots of heart and a desire to improve.

So far, 2012, has been his best year yet, where he just had a spectacular victory over top prospect Rico Verhoeven. He also destroyed the competition in a tournament night of fighting at SuperKombat: Fight Club in Romania. While this was against vastly inferior competition, the power Zimmerman displayed appears that he’s living up to his name “Bonecrusher.” And he was able to defeat talented Roman Kleibl with relative ease. With the experience that the young Zimmerman has already acquired and his increasing power and skills, I think Zimmerman will soon be at the top of the kickboxing world.

    2. Daniel Ghita

Romanian Daniel Ghita is a very large, talented heavyweight who always seemed to come up short against top-level competition like Hesdy Gerges, Gokhan Saki, and even Gregory Tony (haha! at that one). If not for his spectacular win against former Its Showtime champion Hesdy Gerges, I would’ve named Gerges for this position.

But the power Ghita displayed, with his ability to knock out a very tough Gerges with one blow, shows just how much scary power Ghita now has (Badr Hari couldn’t do it when he fought Gerges). This is an ability that not very many fighters have, to knock out an opponent with a single blow. And while Ghita has losses, he has always been on the cusp of greatness. He has all the physical tools to be great, and now with the vastly changed kickboxing landscape, look for Ghita to come out on top.

  • Daniel Ghita vs Current Its Showtime Champion Hesdy Gerges

Fight between two very large heavyweights to begin the year, expect fireworks.
