  • Cecilia Braekhus Decisions Anne-Sophie Mathis, She Is Officially The Best Female Boxer In The World

Cecilia Braekhus proves that not only can she fight, she looks good in a bikini too!

Anne-Sophie Mathis will forever be remembered for bravely fighting on enemy soil TWICE, against the talented but protected American boxer Holly Holm.

Mathis brutally stopped Holly Holm in their first meeting, but lost a close decision in the second. The only other female boxer in the league of these two has been Cecilia Braekhus. Braekhus is based in Germany and is renowned for her athleticism and technique. This proved to be the difference in her bout with Mathis.

However, Mathis is the only female boxer who I truly think has raw power and a destroyer mentality. However, she was outboxed by Braekhus.

Now, the fight between Cecilia Braekhus and Holly Holm MUST happen. Unfortunately, it will probably only happen in New Mexico, because Holm never leaves her hometown to fight. It would be legitimately the biggest money fight that could be made in women’s boxing. The full video of the Braekhus-Mathis fight is below.

  • Holly Holm Snatches Victory Against Anne Sophie-Mathis, But Hometown Cooking Reared its Ugly Head

Congratulations to the brave and talented Holly Holm, for winning a unanimous decision against the fearsome French-woman Anne Sophie-Mathis. I have not seen the match yet, but intend on watching and maybe posting the video when I find one. The reports about the fight are that Holm fought very intelligently, and avoided brawling with Mathis like she did in their previous fight.

However, the match was still believed to be very close, perhaps even a draw, but Holm still won with a wide points decision. Mathis asserted that if she is to ever fight Holm again she does NOT want to fight in New Mexico. Although I give credit to Holm for winning, it’s shameful that both fights happened in New Mexico. She seems worse than Lucian Bute when it comes to never fighting out of her hometown. In fact, her and Andre Ward are neck-and-neck for American fighters who always manage to get the hometown advantage in their major fights.

Holly Holm is undoubtedly one of the top three female boxers in the world. If she is able to negotiate and win a fight against Germany’s Cecilia Brækhus, she might in fact be number one.

  • Holly Holm Has Lost Her Mind, Signed a Rematch With Anne Sophie-Mathis

Holly Holm has always impressed me with her natural athleticism, innate boxing talent, and her toughness. But her fight with frenchwoman Anne Sophie-Mathis is one of the most brutal female boxing matches I’ve ever seen.

Previously, I had never heard of Anne Sophie-Mathis, but she is a 5’11″ boxer from France, who I consider now the best female boxer in the world. Anne Sophie-Mathis knocked out Holm for the first time in her career in scary fashion. The match was unfortunately marred by a completely inept referee who could’ve gotten Holly Holm killed, literally. He failed to call an obvious knockdown, and seemed to fail to recognize that Holly Holm was out on her feet before she was knocked out, while sprawled on the ropes.

Anne Sophie-Mathis, on the other hand, seemed impervious to pain, and Holm was unable to hurt her at all. Sophie-Mathis just seemed bigger, stronger, and Holm couldn’t do anything to back her down. I see their rematch ending the same way, via KO by Anne Sophie-Mathis. The only way Holm can win is if she somehow manages to survive the entire match and wins by a shady decision. I credit Holm with being brave, but I don’t think there is ANY reason for a rematch. Watch the video of the fight below.

  • Holly Holm vs Anne Sophie Mathis

It’s a shame that I can’t find the full fight between two of the top female boxers in the world: American Holly Holm (right pictured above) and Frenchwoman Anne Sophie Mathis (left). Photo courtesy of Fight News.

When I first heard of this fight last December, knowing very little about Mathis, I assumed that Holm would win. Having never previously been knocked out, I was impressed with Holm in her series of fights with Mary Jo Sanders. Holms is a true athlete who has a cagey style that makes it very hard to catch her with anything significant. She has great stamina and the ability to always fight back whenever she starts getting outworked.

She has been greatly criticized for being a hometown girl, because she will never venture outside of her comfort zone of New Mexico where she’s a big draw. Case-in-point, Mathis had to go to Holm and fight in New Mexico for the fight to take place.

Knowing very little about Mathis, I was very surprised at how brutally she KO’ed Holm. Mathis is very tall (5’11″) and thin, but doesn’t have the intimidating physique of a Cyborg Santos, so I didn’t expect her to be able to walk down Holm the way she did. In comparison, Holm was game but was never able to hurt Mathis. What resulted was a knockout win for Mathis. At this point, I think Mathis could easily be the top female boxer in the world. Previously I would’ve given Holm at least top three, but particularly due to the lack of world-class female boxers, I don’t see anyone else coming even close to Mathis.

Hello, I'm the Boxing Blogger. I started watching boxing as a little girl, because of my father telling me stories about Muhammad Ali, who was his hero. I have watched the sweet science ever since, but recently decided to write about it. Thanks for visiting! Please COMMENT, I love hearing from readers!
