I was appalled to hear that Paul “Punisher” Williams, one of my favorite boxers, was terribly injured in a motorcycle accident and could be paralyzed from the waist down. He will have surgery on Wednesday. Paul Williams is a genuine, wonderful person who always was loyal to those around him, and was very very tough.

Williams recently was on the comeback trail, with a decision win over Nobuhiro Ishida. He was just about to have a big-money fight with Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez, before this horrible accident happened.

Please get better Paul Williams. I’m not a religious person, but I will say a prayer for you. I was so sad to hear that this happened.

Sergio Martinez, the man who Williams had two of the greatest middleweight bouts ever with, offered his condolences on twitter.
