Sergio Martinez, King of the Middleweights, Will Now Battle Julio Cesar Chavez Jr September 15th

Sergio Martinez, the un-official king of the middleweights will now officially battle Julio Cesar Chavez Jr September 15th in a really exciting fight.

Martinez has been heckling young Chavez Jr for years for a fight ever since Martinez got wrongly stripped and the title was basically handed over to Chavez Jr. If Chavez Jr wins then Sergio should personally crown him, like he crowned himself after knocking out Paul Williams!

Realistically, though, this match-up has turned out to be a lot more interesting than I had previously anticipated. Sergio Martinez is personally one of my favorite boxers, and I consider him one of the top three best boxers in the world. I love his swagger and beautiful, technical style. He’s an Argentinean that fights with the slick, African-American style that is really fun to watch. He has great movement, loads of stamina, and an under-rated chin.

If this fight had even happened a year ago, I would say that Martinez easily beats Chavez Jr. But, now, I think this match is much closer than it would’ve been in the past. Chavez Jr. is a very big middleweight, is still undefeated, and looked very good in his last stoppage win over Andy Lee. It will be very hard for Martinez to win a decision over Chavez Jr, who is boxing royalty, and I don’t know if he can stop Chavez Jr. One of Chavez’s strong points is his physicality, bodying his opponents around the ring, and he has a very good chin.

I, personally, am very excited about this fight. While I believe that Martinez will win this fight, because he is clearly the better boxer, Chavez Jr has a good chance of pulling off the upset.

  1. This will be a great fight, I can see Martinez beat Chavez jr into submission in the late rounds. Martinez does not fade in the late rounds and can score a knockout at any point in a 12 round fight. Chavez jr did look good against Lee, but Lee is countries away from being a class “A” fighter like Martinez. Martinez has made this fight personal so Chavez jr Is in a world of trouble. Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez is the pound for pound best fighter out there.

  2. I don’t think Martinez is the best fighter out there but I’m sure he’s good enough to beat el chavito
