I was dismayed to learn that one of my personal favorite boxers, Amir Khan, lost in the fifth round to Danny Garcia. He lost in terrible fashion, getting knocked down three times and stopped versus a fighter that everyone (including me) thought he would beat.
This will be the third fight that the young British-Pakistani boxer has lost, although his previous loss to Lamont Peterson has been reversed. The way he was stopped, however, brought back unwelcome memories of his brutal knockout loss to unheralded Colombian boxer Briediss Prescott.
Amir Khan has tremendous physical gifts: speed, length, a decorated amateur background, and a fighter’s mentality. His hand-speed was astonishing in the first two rounds versus Danny Garcia. But he had been somewhat naively looking ahead to fighting Floyd Mayweather, before his fight with Danny Garcia. While, obviously, I’m no fan of Mayweather, Khan has quite a ways to go before challenging Mayweather. Amir Khan’s three biggest weaknesses seem to be a chin that’s been cracked multiples times, inability to fight on the inside, and wanting to prove his manhood by fighting toe-to-toe, instead of strategically to protect his chin.
Before his loss to Lamont Peterson, Amir Khan seemed to be on the precipice of pound-for-pound greatness, greatly outclassing beating both Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi. Now, after this loss, Amir Khan is in danger of becoming a fringe contender. Even at his young age, he’s been through true battles, one with Marcos Maidana, and sustained brutal blows from both Briediss Prescott and Danny Garcia.
He really needs to take a step back and think about his health. I would hate to see such a young, handsome, talented man mess up his health for a fleeting boxing career. If he gets knocked out again in the same fashion within his next couple fights, then I believe he should retire.
It’s also a shame that Khan lost to Danny Garcia and his a**hole dad, Angel Garcia, who is a scum-ball racist, going on rants about how Pakistanis can’t fight, Americans are discriminated against in boxing, and that Amir Khan should “fly away on his magic carpet.” Angel Garcia represents the lowest common denominator in boxing and is disgusting to listen to and look at.
Look at Angel Garcia and his jerkwad Dad Angel Garcia below. Yuck!

He should keep his head up high, after all he can always try something else… like cricket or Jihad.
We’re taking trash talk too seriously. Daddy Angel is no Chael Sonnen, but he’s funny
pakistanis are very discriminated against in the UK. idiotic angel garcia might not know that, but that doesn’t make him less of a scumbag. i like fighters such as mark hunt who are kind and accepting of others.
You’re being overly sensitive, I don’t see how saying things about how they can’t fight or telling jokes about magic carpets can be so offensive.
And being half “Arab” and sharing a lot of “culture” with Pakistanis, I can tell that the discrimination they face in the UK is just a reasonable reaction to the way they behave and think. It’s not like they are Indians…
i saw a documentary about Pakistanis and their behavior in the UK. i’m not saying that it’s not true, but i don’t think amir khan is like that, and it bothers me how much racism gets thrown at him on message boards. i may be too sensitive, but i also think the world is a racist Place in general… and Angel Garcia is just some nutso who somehow got some media attention because of his son.
besides i really like amir khan, and i always will.
