Jerome Le Banner is one of the all-time greats in kickboxing. He used to be one of my favorites to watch, because
of his aggressive fighting style and personality. If you had asked me even a year ago, who would’ve won between Jerome and Errol, I would’ve immediately chosen Jerome.
How things can change. Jerome, to his credit, was willing to fight the surging Errol Zimmerman, even at the age of 39. That means that his opponent is more than a decade younger than him. Jerome has always presented France very well, fighting Ernesto Hoost, Tyrone Spong, and Semmy Schilt. He never backed down from anyone.
But in his match with Zimmerman, he was beaten like I’ve never seen the Frenchman beaten before, knocked down three times, stopped in the first round. Errol has proven that his streak of wins are no fluke. Le Banner should most likely retire, and this match signifies a passing of the torch from one generation to another. I hope Remy Bonjasky comes out of retirement so Errol can knock him out too!
