  • Marloes Coenen Will Rematch Cyborg Santos

Marloes Coenen says her first fight against Cyborg Santos was stopped too soon, and that referees stop the fights between women too soon.

She is excited about the rematch and doesn’t believe that Santos is still using steroids. I believe Marloes has a legitimate chance to win this time. Santos has dealt with divorce, public shaming, and the reality that she competed while grossly abusing drugs. This has to take a toll on the fighter. I believe Coenen will defeat Santos, who is no longer taken seriously.

  • How Would Holly Holm Do Against Ronda Rousey?

Holly Holm is arguably the greatest female boxer in the world. Women’s boxing has a very small audience, but in that niche Holly Holm has firmly placed herself as the number one female boxer in the United States. At thirty years of age, she has announced that she is leaving boxing to compete in MMA.

The immediate question is how would Holly Holm do against Ronda Rousey? Holly Holm, like Rousey, is a true athlete who thrives in competition. Cat Zingano, the woman slated to face Rousey next, is a mother of two and a BJJ instructor. Comparatively, Holly’s credentials put Zingano’s to shame. Undoubtedly, Holly has superior striking skills to any female MMA competitor. However, the big question is her ground game and her submissions, which are vitally important if she ever wants to dethrone Ronda Rousey.

However, Ronda has never really faced an opponent with the top-level striking skills that Holly Holm has. It would be a classic grappler vs striker matchup. They are also both blonde, attractive, and American, which means it’s a very marketable fight for the UFC audience.

As of right now, Rousey would probably easily win via armbar, but Holm has showed after rematching Anne Sophie-Mathis, how determined and capable she is against adversity. In a couple years, this could be a competitive and lucrative matchup.

  • Cat Zingano Upsets The UFC’s Plans for Tate-Rousey II

Dana White was obviously looking forward to promoting Tate-Rousey part deux, going by his reaction after Cat Zingano brutally stopped Miesha Tate in their bout. I had thought that Miesha Tate was going to outclass the lesser-known Zingano, but Cat proved everyone wrong.

Miesha Tate just hasn’t had any luck recently, but I actually am more excited to see Ronda Rousey take on some new blood in Cat Zingano. While Miesha Tate has a lot of heart, I don’t think she has anything more to offer that would nullify Rousey’s armbar. Zingano will offer a fresh match-up, and she’s about to become well-known in the MMA world – by being a coach on The Ultimate Fighter. Congrats Cat Zingano!

  • The Fall Of Andrei Arlovski

Andrei Arlovski has lost again via unanimous decision, this time against Anthony Johnson, suffering a broken jaw. At one time Andrei Arlovski was considered a fearsome heavyweight, and had a promising future as a mainstay in the UFC heavyweight division. Arlovski was around during an era that was considered one of the weakest UFC eras for heavyweights. After his second loss to Tim Sylvia Arlovski never really seemed the same dominating fighter.

While he had some success outside of the UFC, his jaw was cracked by Fedor Emelianko in a tragic scene. And after Arlovski’s fall from grace, he has yet to return, suffering one brutal knockout after another, even falling to the overhyped Brett Rogers.

This is unfortunate for Arlovski who is liked by the fans, has a great Sparta-type look and a great personality, but yet continues to struggle. Recently, he had announced that he wanted to make a comeback in the UFC, which I admittedly thought was a delusion. I hoped that I was wrong, because I’ve always liked Arlovski, but it looks like I was right.

  • Mark Hunt VS Junior Dos Santos Is An Intriguing Matchup

Dana White once said that Mark Hunt was in no way ready for someone like Junior Dos Santos. And while Junior Dos Santos is still the heavy favorite, enough has changed that this matchup is intriguing.

Mark Hunt has resurrected an abysmal career in MMA to be on a winning streak, the last one knocking out Stefan Struve. Meanwhile, Junior Dos Santos was dominated by a surging Cain Velasquez and has recently gone through a divorce.

On paper, Junior Dos Santos should still win this bout, as he has all the physical advantages. But Mark Hunt should make this fight interesting. And, if he somehow does manage to win, he could eventually even challenge for the UFC title, which would be truly amazing.

  • Video Of Funny Press Conference Between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz

This video of the media call between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz made me laugh out loud. It’s hard to believe that Nick Diaz isn’t acting. If he isn’t, he might be the most unintentionally funny man in MMA.

  • Blackzilians Under Fire, Should They Disband?

When I first heard about the Blackzilians, I thought it was a very cool name and strong team. I thought they would eventually do big things in the world of MMA. After all they had Alistair Overeem, Rashad Evans, and Tyrone Spong on one team. I thought this team had a lot of talent with Overeem as their franchise player.

    Boy, was I wrong.

The Blackzilian team did awful in their latest UFC outing. Overeem was knocked out by supposed stepping stone Bigfoot Silva and Rashad Evans lost a lackluster decision to Antonio Rogerio Noguiera. Their two biggest stars lost two major fights in one night. Ouch.

Tyrone Spong still seems to be doing well, but he still has a lot to prove in the world of MMA, although he is an elite kickboxer. Something just seemed to be off about the Blackzilians. Some teams have chemistry, while others don’t, and it appeared that whatever was going on in their training sessions wasn’t working.

While I don’t think the Blackzilians should disband just yet, if they keep underperforming then within the next year, they should all move on to other camps.

  • Fallon Fox Is A Transgendered Fighter In WMMA, Is This Fair To Other Female Competitors?

First let me say that I have no problem with transgendered individuals. I strongly believe that every person should feel comfortable in their own skin, irregardless of what society thinks about them. However, when I first heard about Fallon Fox, I couldn’t help but think this was unfair to other female fighters. She was recently outed, and has been competing in WMMA.

Even Lucia Rijker, widely considered one of the best female fighters of all time, was brutally knocked out by a lower-level male fighter when she competed in an exhibition fight. While Fallon Fox has undoubtedly been taking female hormones for years, she is still genetically a man, therefore I think it’s not ethical for her to be competing against women. I know many people will disagree with me, but transgendered women shouldn’t compete against genetic women in physical combat.

  • Diego Sanchez Is Annoying And Won’t Go Away, Defeats Gomi!

Diego Sanchez is the annoying wrestling-based MMA fighter from the original episode of The Ultimate Fighter. Originally, he had a bright future, remaining undefeated for a long time, and even dating beautiful ring-card girl Ali Sonoma.

His winning streak came to an end at the hands of Jon Fitch, and then his championship dreams were dashed at the hands of BJ Penn. Sanchez was never a particularly exciting fighter and he always had an annoying, ultra-intense personality.

He also recently defeated one of my favorite fighter in Takanori Gomi in a very close fight. That is very annoying!!! I wish Sanchez had been included on the list of recent UFC cuts.

  • Wanderlei Silva’s Exciting Win Over Brian Stann Was Probably His Swan Song

Wanderlei Silva is almost universally loved by MMA fans, a rare happening in the fickle world of MMA. At his prime, Wanderlei exhibited sheer and frightening brutality, and he would’ve been a great model for a video game character.

Yet he had a noticeable and sad decline when fighting in the UFC. However, his last win over Brian Stann was perhaps his most triumphant in a long time. With has last knockout over Cung Le and this one over Brian Stann, Silva has proven his worth as an all-time great fighter in MMA. He has elevated his sport even during his losses with his aggressive style and his determination to have exciting fights.

After this win, I don’t believe Silva really has anywhere higher to go. He will not be a champion in his division, but he would leave on a win, which many legends don’t have the luxury to do. Over the years, he has taken tremendous punishment that has re-shapen his face and changed his speech.

Silva’s win over Stann should be his swan song.

  • About the Author

Hello, I'm the Boxing Blogger. I started watching boxing as a little girl, because of my father telling me stories about Muhammad Ali, who was his hero.
