Anderson Silva Stops Chael Sonnen In Second Round Via Strikes

Anderson Silva did in the second round what I expected him to do in his first fight with Chael Sonnen, which was stop Chael Sonnen via strikes. After being taken down by Sonnen throughout the first round, eventually Silva’s vastly superior striking made the difference, and he beat Sonnen into submission in the second round.

To Sonnen’s credit, I do think he made the build-up to this fight entertaining by antagonizing the child-like Silva repeatedly. Anderson Silva has always struck me as an idiot savant type character, with his almost jedi-like striking skills, yet refusal to speak english and bizarre ring behavior.

But now that Fedor Emelianko has officially retired, Anderson Silva is the undisputed pound-for-pound KING of MMA. Who’s left for Anderson Silva? I believe the only feasible matchup left for him is Jon Jones. Unfortunately, Anderson Silva has made it clear that he believes that he would be outmatched by the larger Jon Jones and refuses to take the fight.

I secretly wish that Anderson Silva would retire from MMA and fight Roy Jones Jr in a boxing match. As a novelty fight, I feel like that would be a supremely entertaining event!
